As I stepped out of the Grand Hall, a sea of people and the press immediately swarmed me, all eager to catch a glimpse of their queen. The air was thick with expectation, and the atmosphere was electric as countless cameras flashed and holographic recorders hummed, capturing my every movement.

I could feel the weight of their gazes on me, each person analyzing my posture, my attire, and my expression. I did my best to maintain a calm and composed demeanor, even though I felt the pressure of their scrutiny. Master Sergeant Killdare appeared by my side and guided me to an awaiting hovercraft.

Seated within were the Headmaster and several other dignitaries. As I settled into the hovercraft, I could feel their eyes on me, their expressions a mix of shock, awe, and confusion.

The Headmaster, a thin and gaunt man, was the first to speak. “Well, I’ll be damned,” he said, his eyes widening in disbelief. “Zalara was our Queen all along?”

I nodded, my eyes scanning the faces of those around me. “Yes, Headmaster. I’ve been posing as Zalara Galen since I entered the academy.”

“Your Majesty,” the Headmaster began, his voice filled with a mixture of respect and confusion. “We had no idea… we didn’t know that you were actually Queen Elzaria.”

The other dignitaries nodded their agreement, their faces etched with surprise and disbelief.

One of them, a tall, muscular man with a thick beard, spoke up. “You’re very different from the young princess portrayed in the media and we assumed you to be, Your Majesty. To think that you could achieve what you did while pretending to be someone else. It’s truly remarkable.”

I could feel their eyes on me, watching my every move.

“My deception may have caused confusion, but please understand that my intentions were pure,” I replied, keeping my tone even and controlled. “I needed to learn the true meaning of strength, honor, and duty, so that I might better serve and protect the Empyrean people. And I believe that my time at the academy has given me the readiness and knowledge necessary to do just that.”

The Headmaster nodded, his expression softening slightly. “Yes, Your Majesty, we have seen the progress that you, as Zalara Galen, have made during your time here at the academy. You showed remarkable dedication, courage, and skill, and have earned the respect of your fellow knights.”

We arrived at the Headmaster’s residence and were treated to a lovely dinner. Foods I had missed during the many lunars I had trained. The night wound down, and I said my polite goodbyes.

Walking back to the barracks, the Master Sergeant followed behind. I turned. “There’s no need to walk me to the barracks. Stay at the party and enjoy yourself.”

“Your Majesty, I have been assigned to protect you until you are returned home to Arcadia.”

“What? You have got to be kidding me. You know that’s unnecessary.” I insisted.

“I’m following orders.”

“I understand.” I said, turning to face him. “Thank you for making me a knight. Earning your respect was the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
